Run your pool filtration system for 8-12 hours a day depending on the size of your pool to keep the water clear and clean.
Q. How often should I backwash my filter?
Backwash your filter weekly in the swimming season and monthly through the off season. Or follow indications on your filters pressure gauge.
Q. How often should I test my water?
Test your pool water every 1 – 2 weeks in the swimming season and every 4 – 6 weeks in the off season.
We offer free in store water testing.
Q. What type of sanitation should I use in my pool?
Chlorine is the most common option, but you can also use saltwater chlorination or mineral systems. Each option has its own benefits, so choose the one that best suits your needs.
Q. When and why should I shock dose my pool?
For a chlorine pool you will need to shock dose your pool weekly or after heavy use to eliminate bacteria, contaminants and algae.
This helps maintain clear and healthy water.
Q. Why is chemical balance in my water important?
Balanced pool water keeps your pool safe, prevents damage to equipment, and ensures a comfortable swim. It also helps to prevent algae growth and scaling.
Q. Is a fibreglass pool better than a concrete pool?
Fibreglass pools are quicker to install, easier to maintain, and require fewer chemicals than concrete pools. They also have a smooth surface that is less likely to harbour algae.
Q. What are my options if I want to heat my pool?
You can heat your pool with solar heating, heat pumps, or gas heaters, depending on your budget and climate. Solar heating is energy-efficient, while heat pumps and gas heaters provide more consistent heating.
Q. Can I view pool options and different colours in person?
Yes, we have a showroom where you can see samples of different options available. Alternatively we can also take you to view pool shapes, size and colour options in person via appointment.
Q. Can I use a bubble cover all year round?
Yes, you can use a bubble cover year-round to help maintain pool temperature and reduce evaporation. We recommend you ensure the cover is kept clean, stored away correctly and not left on the pool longer than a few weeks at a time to let chemical gasses escape.
Q. Why is my pump noisy?
A noisy pump could be due to air in the system, worn bearings, or loose fittings. Check for any visible issues or we can trouble shoot with you over the phone.
If the noise persists, your pump can be inspected in our workshop or one of our knowledgeable technicians can carry out a site visit.
Q. How do I know if I have phosphates and how do I treat it?
Test your water for phosphates using a test kit or by bring a sample instore for testing. High phosphate levels can lead to algae growth, so treat it with a phosphate remover to maintain clear water.
Q. What will happen to my pool if my water supply is high in metals?
High metal content can cause staining on pool surfaces and water discolouration. Use a metal sequestrant to prevent and manage metal issues, and regularly test your water.
Q. Is it dangerous to empty my swimming pool?
Yes, emptying a pool can cause structural damage or lifting due to hydrostatic pressure. Always consult a professional before draining to avoid costly damage.
Q. How do I winterise my pool?
When you water drop below 16 degrees, you can winterise your pool by turning your filtration down, adjusting chlorinators and reducing your chemical dosing.
We recommend using a winterising algaecide and you may also choose to place a debris cover on the pool.
Maintaining your pool over winter helps to prevent damage and makes opening your pool for the swimming season easier and more affordable.
Q. How do I maintain the longevity of my pool pavers and concrete?
Seal the pavers and concrete every couple of years and clean regularly to prevent staining and weather damage. Avoid using harsh chemicals that could damage the surface and repair any cracks as soon as you can.
Spas
Q. Why is chemical balance in my water important?
Balanced spa chemistry prevents damage to equipment, ensures there is no bacteria and smells and helps to maintain clarity and bather comfort.
Q. How often should I test my spa pool water?
Routine water testing is generally recommended at least once a week unless heavy bather load, abnormal water changes, clarity issues or odours. We offer free in store water testing.
Q. How often should I degrease my spa pipes?
Degreasing spa pipes is typically recommended every 3 to 6 months.
Q. How often should I degrease my filter cartridge?
You should clean your filter cartridge with a hose at least once a week, then soak in a degreaser every 4 to 6 weeks.
Q. What is the best way to help the longevity of my spa cover?
Clean your spa cover with a vinyl cleaner to remove dirt and prevent mould or mildew. You should then apply a UV-resistant cover conditioner or protectant to prevent sun damage.
If you use a cover lifter, this will reduce wear and stress on points of your cover, ensuring longevity.
Q. Why is my pump noisy?
A noisy pump can result from air in the pump system, debris or blockages in a pipe or the pumps impeller, mechanical issues like bearings, vibration or misalignment. We can help troubleshoot this over the phone or have one of our knowledgeable technicians help you via a site visit.
Q. Why is my spa smelly when I lift the lid?
An unpleasant odor often indicates bacteria or organic compounds on surfaces or in the water. It could also be due to chemical imbalance from over or under sanitisation or incorrect pH levels. Regular cleaning and proper chemical management are key to preventing these odors.
Q. What will happen to my spa water if my water supply is high in calcium?
High calcium levels can lead to scale buildup on surfaces, heaters, and pipes. Scale can eventually cause damage if not managed correctly.
We would recommend using a scale inhibitor to manage and protect.

High metal content can cause staining on surfaces and water discolouration. Use a metal sequestrant to prevent and manage metal issues, and regularly test your water.
